Japanese investor SoftBank has reduced its stake in Ola Electric to 11.7% after selling 5.55 crore shares. Its investment vehicle, SVF II Ostrich (DE) LLC, conducted the open market transactions between January 6 and October 22, 2026. The investor also sold 1.12 crore rights entitlements as Ola Electric pursued a Rs. 999.74 crore fundraising plan.

The sales come as the electric two-wheeler maker seeks fresh capital to repay debt and support expansion. SoftBank’s holding fell from 12.9% before the latest transactions, according to the company filing. The investor retained 54.15 crore shares after the share sales, while its rights entitlement allocation also declined.

Rights Issue Draws Different Investor Responses

Ola Electric’s rights issue offers up to 37.03 crore partly paid shares at Rs. 27 each. The offer opened on October 22 and closes on October 30, with eligible shareholders receiving two shares for every 25 held. Investors must pay Rs. 16.20 per share initially, followed by Rs. 10.80 through a later payment call.

SoftBank received approximately 4.33 crore rights entitlements based on its shareholding on the October 13 record date. It sold 1.12 crore entitlements by October 22, retaining around 3.21 crore. Rights entitlements allow shareholders to buy additional shares or transfer their subscription rights to other investors.

Fundraising Comes Amid Business Pressure

SoftBank backed Ola Electric in 2019 with a USD 250 million investment that valued the company at about USD 1 billion. It continued reducing its exposure after Ola Electric listed in August 2024, including earlier share sales during 2025.

Ola Electric raised Rs. 780.24 crore through a qualified institutional placement in June. The company reported a 45% year-over-year revenue decline to Rs. 455 crore in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, although its net loss narrowed to Rs. 336 crore.

The latest stake reduction highlights SoftBank’s continued sell-down as Ola Electric seeks funding for debt repayment and expansion. The company also faces pressure to recover market share in India’s electric two-wheeler market.

Important update: Reports published on October 26 say SoftBank sold another 1.21 crore rights entitlements on October 22 and 23, accounting for roughly 28% of its allocation. This differs from the earlier 1.12 crore figure in the supplied report.
