The state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has paid the Central Government a dividend of Rs. 12,203 crore, representing its final dividend for the financial year ended March 31, 2026. The payment follows an approval by the shareholders at the insurer's 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 27, 2026.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman received the cheque for the dividend from the CEO and Managing Director of the LIC, R. Doraiswamy. During the handover, senior officials Ratnakar Patnaik and R. Chander, Managing Directors of LIC, and Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, attended the event.

Shareholders Back Dividend Proposal

Shareholders agreed to pay a final dividend of Rs. 10 per equity share with a face value of Rs. 10 per share at the AGM. The dividend resolution received more than 99.99% approval, indicating a high acceptance among the shareholders.

All seven resolutions that were placed for shareholders' approval were approved via e-voting on the NSDL platform, from July 23 to 26, 2026.

The meeting also approved LIC's standalone and consolidated financial statements for FY2025-26, the appointment of the Zonal Auditors and Divisional Auditors, and material related-party transactions with LIC Mutual Fund Asset Management Limited. 

The company said that the related-party transaction proposal also received around 99.99% approval from eligible shareholders after excluding promoter and related-party votes, as per SEBI norms.

 LIC Marks 70 Years of Operations

The announcement of the dividend is part of LIC's 70th year of incorporation celebrations. The insurer's total asset base stood at Rs. 59.03 lakh crore by March 31, 2026, further cementing its place as India's largest life insurance provider.

The corporation stated it remains the leader in the life insurance market in India for its large distribution network, huge customer base and improving financial strength.

The latest dividend payment by LIC reinforces its role in government revenues and also continues to deliver returns to its shareholders with regular dividend payments.
