XRP Ledger Upgrade Could Cut Node Memory Usage by 40% as Version 3.2.0 Nears Launch

XRP Ledger's upcoming 3.2.0 upgrade could reduce node memory usage by up to 40%, improving scalability and strengthening infrastructure for institutional adoption.

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) ecosystem is gearing up for a notable backend upgrade that will be crucial for the platform's performance and user experience as it nears its June 15 rollout. The update does not include any new features for users, but it aims to enhance network efficiency, lower infrastructure expenses, and ensure long-term scalability.

The key difference is the renaming of the ledger's core server software from "rippled" to "xrpld", in an effort to better reflect the XRP Ledger's independent ecosystem as adoption is growing outside of the Ripple ecosystem.

XRPL Operations states that infrastructure providers, validators and exchanges will need to modify their monitoring systems, scripts and server configurations before the transition.

Memory Usage Could Fall by Up to 40%

The goal of the 3.2.0 release is to optimize the performance of the application. According to developers, node memory usage might be reduced by 30%-40%, which would help the validators to process transactions more efficiently and save hardware.

It also includes number handling improvements, rounding rules, code refactoring and backend maintenance. These adjustments will enable growth in activity across tokenization, decentralized finance (DeFi), stablecoins and real-world asset (RWA) applications.

With XRPL's growing ecosystem, reductions in infrastructure expenses may increase participation for node operators and enterprise users.

Network Readiness Remains Strong

Data on the network indicates that around 84% of all the nodes on the XRPL have now been updated to the latest version 3.1.3 launched in late May.

That previous release has resolved NFTs, Permissioned Domains, Vaults, Lending Protocol functionality, and Multi-Purpose Tokens problems. The high adoption indicates that the network is in a good position to smoothly migrate to version 3.2.0.

The developers recommend that upgrading to the latest servers be carried out before the activation, due to the possibility of not being able to participate fully in the consensus operations if the server is not up to date.

XRP Price Remains Under Pressure

While the upgrade is near, XRP also has some general market sentiments to contend with. The token is currently trading at $1.17 with an increase of 2.67% in the last 24 hours but a 7.43% decline in the last 7 days.

Analysts are keeping an eye on support at $1.03 and resistance at $1.36. The infrastructure upgrade could improve the network's long-term foundations, but historically software upgrades usually have limited impact on short-term prices.

Focus Shifts to Scalability and Institutional Adoption

As blockchain networks compete for institutional adoption in payments, tokenized assets and stablecoin infrastructure, the XRPL upgrade comes at an opportune moment.

With interoperability solutions, Ripple's stablecoin RLUSD has already been expanded to over 40 different blockchain networks, further driving the growth activity within the XRPL ecosystem.

Version 3.2.0 is a step towards increased scalability for enterprise and institutional applications, with a reduced memory footprint, increased efficiency, and greater readiness of the ecosystem's nodes.
