LPG Price Today (March 17): Cylinder Rates Above Rs. 900 in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata & Bengaluru

Cooking Gas Price Update: Check City Wise LPG Cylinder Rates as Households Continue Managing Rising Monthly Costs
Published on

Domestic LPG prices saw no fresh revision on March 17, but refill costs continue to weigh on household budgets across India’s major urban centres. After the recent increase earlier this month, the price of a standard 14.2 kg cylinder remains above Rs 900 in most cities, forcing families to stay cautious with monthly spending.

Oil marketing companies typically review LPG rates at the start of every month. Even without a change today, the elevated price band means cooking gas continues to be a major fixed expense for urban households. Here is a clear look at city-wise prices and what consumers can keep in mind.

Delhi and Mumbai: Refill cost around Rs. 913

Delhi’s consumers have to shell out around Rs. 913 per refill of a domestic LPG cylinder. In contrast, citizens of Mumbai have to spend around Rs. 912.50 per refill. This is because there is not much variation between the logistics of these two cities.

Citizens of these metropolitan cities have now begun to plan ahead of time to refill their cylinders, rather than waiting to see any changes in prices announced by their respective governments.

Kolkata, Chennai and Lucknow: Among the costlier markets

Kolkata is still seeing one of the highest domestic LPG prices in the country at around Rs. 939 per cylinder. Similarly, in Chennai, the cost of refilling is around Rs. 928.50 per cylinder, whereas in Lucknow, consumers are paying around Rs. 930 for a refill.

In these cities, consumers are searching for the status of subsidies, comparing delivery times for LPG refills across distributors, and planning to set aside a certain amount for LPG expenses. Small food establishments are also keeping an eye on fuel prices as margins are thin.

Bengaluru: Slight relief, but still above Rs 900

In Bengaluru, the cost of LPG is relatively lower compared to other metros and ranges between Rs. 905 and Rs .910 depending upon the area and agency.

The impact on consumers’ expenditure in both cities is more or less the same as food and utility costs have increased together.

For consumers in both Bengaluru and Kolkata, it is recommended that they verify the current rate with their agency before booking and be mindful of shared usage in a rental or co-living space.

Going forward, the trend in LPG prices will be largely driven by international supply conditions, freight rates, and exchange rate movements.

India is a large importer of cooking gas, and therefore international issues will have a significant impact on local rates in the near future. Until then, it is important for consumers in both cities to keep track of revised rates each month.
