SFC senior Andrew Slips is keeping his hopes high when he graduates in May, thanks to his internship this past semester at Cartoon Network!
Andrew was presented with an internship at Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoon Network back in January 2010.
He first applied to Turner in late 2009 after meeting with some Saint Francis Alumni who put in a good word for Andrew. Soon after Andrew's networking sessions, he was called for a phone interview and asked to fill out an application. Within a few weeks he began interning at Cartoon Network.
Andrew had a number of internship positions to choose from, including one in the Ad and Sales department -- which Andrew thought was a good fit for his Advertising/Public Relations major.
In the department, he has been asked to write order letters -- which are letters between Cartoon Network and major advertising firms, such as Weiden and Kennedy.
“Ad sales representatives have also been taking me through the ins and outs of how commercial space is purchased, organized and laid out,” said Andrew, which could be beneficial later on in his career.
Aside from that, Andrew has also been performing tasks such as organizing promotional items for trade shows as well as client gift bags.
Working at Cartoon Network has been a pleasure for him as he believes Turner Broadcasting offers a vast range of job opportunities.
Reaching out to many of the supervisors and advertising sales representatives for advice has also been a great learning experience for Andrew.
Although Andrew has interned for a short while, he soon proved to the company that he is a dedicated and hard-working individual; his supervisors were so pleased with his work that they invited him to meetings and even company breakfasts.
With the internship coming to an end soon Andrew hopes “to obtain a position somewhere in Turner” after graduation.
However, if Andrew Slips feels Turner or Cartoon Network isn’t right for him he thinks “having Scooby Doo on a resume can't hurt.”
